Analysis of materials and construction
This knife is made of forged 95X18 steel with a hardness of 58 HRC, which provides an excellent combination of strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. 95X18 steel is famous for its high chromium content (about 18%), which makes it excellent corrosion resistance even with prolonged contact with moisture or organic matter, which is especially important for tourist and field conditions. Forging additionally increases the strength and working life of the blade, reducing the risk of chipping and fracturing.
The handle is made of natural wenge wood, a material known for its durability, pleasant tactility and sturdy structure. Wenge not only gives the product an aesthetic appeal and a unique appearance due to its dark woody texture, but also provides a secure grip even in wet or cold conditions. The handle length (95 mm) is optimal for controlling a small blade, and due to processing and impregnation, the wood is protected from swelling and cracks.
The blade has miniature dimensions – length 19 mm, width 10 mm, thickness 1.3 mm. This compactness indicates that the knife is specialized for precise, delicate work that requires careful cutting and complete control. The set includes a leather scabbard, emphasizing exclusivity and convenience of storage, as well as protecting the product from moisture and mechanical damage.
Optimal conditions of use
This knife is designed for fine, jewelry tasks: woodwork (carving, pruning), small hobby operations, modeling, leather work, as well as an auxiliary tool for opening small packages, sewing or household tasks where careful, precise movement is required. Due to its increased resistance to moisture and rust, the knife is great for carrying in the field and daily use in the workshop or at home.
The shape of the blade is not specified, however, based on the size and purpose, the knife is versatile for miniature work, and its low weight and compactness guarantee ease of carrying and lack of fatigue during prolonged use. The wenge handle is especially good for working "at the tip of your fingers" – the knife literally merges with your hand, does not slip even with sweaty palms.
Wear resistance, corrosion resistance and easy maintenance
Steel 95X18 (58 HRC) is one of the leaders among Russian corrosion–resistant steels, allowing the knife to be used without the risk of rust, even with minimal maintenance. A hardness of 58 HRC ensures long enough retention of the cutting edge and resistance to abrasion. However, the miniature thickness requires careful treatment – it is not recommended to use the product for opening hard materials, working on bones, metal, or as a basic knife for heavy tasks.
Blade straightening is not difficult: the 95X18 is easily repaired on standard abrasives, and does not require frequent refilling. It is enough to wipe the wenge handle with a soft cloth and sometimes treat it with natural oil to preserve its natural shine and protect it from drying out.
Advantages and limitations
- Advantages: Reference corrosion resistance of steel; support for perfect cutting edge sharpness; safe and comfortable grip; versatility for delicate, precise tasks; compact size for permanent wear; environmental friendliness and aesthetics of wenge wood.
- Limitations: It is not intended for household and field tasks that require force (opening canned food, cutting thick branches, cutting large products). Due to its size and thickness, it is not a choice for hunting, fishing or heavy tourism.
Recommendations and conclusion
An ideal choice for artisans, modelers, collectors and anyone who appreciates handwork and uniqueness. The knife will perfectly prove itself as a "second blade" for precision operations or a permanent EDC satellite in the city and workshop. It is not recommended for heavy tourism or rough work.
Care:It is enough to wipe the blade after use, and treat the handle with oil once or twice a year. Thanks to the quality of materials and hand-made, the knife will become a real highlight of your collection or a faithful assistant for many years to come.
