Technical analysis: materials, construction and their advantages
The blade is made of high—tech steel S390 manufactured by Boehler, one of the hardest and most wear-resistant tool steels. The hardness of the blade reaches an impressive 70 HRC, which ensures outstanding cutting edge durability and minimal need for frequent sharpening. The S390 has excellent wear resistance and is able to handle prolonged intensive work on wood, leather and meat. However, S390 steel is considered difficult to self-sharpen due to its high hardness — high hardness abrasives (diamond or ceramic stones) will be required for maintenance.
The handle material is natural wenge, known for its density, durability and beautiful dark texture. Wenge is resistant to moisture and is not prone to cracking, which makes the handle reliable in both dry and slightly humid conditions. Inserts and guards made of nickel silver not only give the product a classic look, but also serve as additional protection against corrosion and damage. Nickel silver does not darken with time and is practically not susceptible to oxidation.
The knife is equipped with a wooden sheath, which aesthetically complements the image of the product, ensures safe storage and protects the blade from accidental damage.
Knife features and ergonomics
The classic shape of the handle with a pronounced guard and the choice of materials optimized for density and texture guarantee a secure hold of the knife even in a wet palm or when working with gloves. The balance of the blade and handle is adjusted in such a way as to minimize fatigue during prolonged use and increase the accuracy of controlled cuts.
The blade thickness of 2.4 mm and length of 128 mm is the optimal combination for a universal knife for field and hunting purposes: thin enough to make a delicate cut, but it can withstand significant loads without the risk of breaking.
Scope and limitations
- is optimal for: hunters, tourists, collectors, as well as for fans of classic and historically significant knife shapes. It is ideal for butchering carcasses, skinning, cutting wood and performing household tasks on hikes and expeditions. Due to its high hardness and wear resistance, the S390 is suitable for long and intensive work without frequent sharpening.
- It is not recommended: for extreme batoning (cutting thick branches), metal work, as well as in everyday life in the kitchen for cutting bones — too high hardness can lead to chipping under improper load. Due to the complexity of self-sharpening, it is not suitable for those who do not use professional sharpening systems.
Advantages and limitations
- The highest wear resistance and hardness of S390 steel (up to 70 HRC) — minimum sharpening costs, maximum durability of the working edge.
- Wenge and nickel silver are durable, aesthetic and reliable materials for the handle: excellent ergonomics, resistance to moisture and mechanical influences.
- Wooden scabbard — safe storage, no condensation to protect the blade.
- The historical form is a replica of the classic NKVD Finca with an emphasis on collectible and cultural value.
- Complex self—sharpening requires special skills and equipment.
Care recommendations and final conclusions
To maintain the optimal condition of the blade, it is recommended to wipe it after use and apply a light layer of oil during long-term storage. Despite the increased corrosion resistance of the S390, if aggressive liquids or blood get on the blade, it is recommended to clean the blade immediately. The wenge handle can occasionally be waxed or treated with special wood oils. Nickel silver does not require special care.
This knife is an ideal choice for connoisseurs of high—tech steels, collectors and hunters who value aesthetics, endurance and durability. The legendary NKVD Finki uniform is complemented by modern premium materials. It is optimal for demanding users who are not ready to compromise on quality and functionality, but it is not recommended for those who do not have access to professional sharpening.
