Precise analysis of the characteristics and features of the knife
S390 Steel: The blade is made of S390 high-speed powder steel, which has one of the highest hardness on the market (70 HRC). This steel is renowned for its excellent wear resistance, long-lasting sharpness and extremely high cutting edge strength. Due to the high hardness of the S390, the knife demonstrates outstanding resistance to blunting even during intensive work on hard or abrasive materials. However, such a hard steel requires care: we do not recommend using the blade for lever movements, opening cans and severe lateral pressure — there may be a risk of chipping.
Handle material:The handle is made of a unique combination of Karelian birch and mammoth tooth. Karelian birch is appreciated for its texture, durability and soft, pleasant touch, it does not chill even in the cold. The inlay of mammoth tooth fragments is not only an exclusive touch, but also a tribute to the historical heritage. A properly treated mammoth tooth is resistant to moisture and gives the knife a collectible value, while the ensemble of materials provides both excellent aesthetics and practicality in use.
Geometry of the blade:The classic shape of the Normal Blade is versatile: the blade is of medium length (140 mm), 30 mm wide and 2.4 mm thick, suitable for most household, hiking and hunting tasks. This geometry is designed for smooth, controlled cutting both when cutting and when working on products and wood.
Resistance to moisture and corrosion: S390 steel contains a high percentage of chromium, which provides good corrosion resistance, but not at the level of purely corrosion-resistant steels. With proper care (wiping after work, periodic lubrication), the risk of rust is eliminated even when working in high humidity conditions. The handle made of birch and a stabilized (or properly processed) mammoth tooth is resistant to moisture, but prolonged contact with water is not recommended.
Hand hold and ergonomics:The handle length (135 mm) is designed for medium and large palms, the anatomical shapes and texture of birch provide a reliable, comfortable grip even in wet conditions or when working with gloves.
Ease of sharpening and maintenance:S390 is a very hard steel that requires the use of diamond or ceramic sharpeners to maintain factory sharpness. The knife holds its sharpness longer than any other tool steel, and needs to be sharpened less often, but the process of restoring the edge requires better abrasives and accuracy.
The scabbard: The sturdy leather sheath securely locks the knife and protects it in outdoor and urban environments.
Optimal tasks, advantages and limitations
- Ideal for: hunting (butchering, skinning, skinning), tourism, field work, fishing, collecting, and gift giving. It is suitable for working on wood and products.
- Advantages:Phenomenal cutting edge durability, collector's value due to the use of a mammoth tooth, exceptional appearance, comfortable grip, good moisture resistance, durability of the handle.
- Limitations: It is not recommended to use it for heavy power work, chopping bones, opening canned food. The sharpening process is more complicated than that of less rigid steels. Do not immerse the handle in water for a long time.
Unique advantages and differences of the knife
- The use of a mammoth tooth is a rarity, giving the knife the status of a unique and collectible item.
- S390 powder steel is the choice of professionals who appreciate the ultra—long service life of the cutting edge.
- The author's balance between beauty (Karelian birch + mammoth tooth) and practicality of form.
- Each piece is unique due to the handwork and natural texture of the materials.
Care recommendations and target audience
Care: After use, be sure to wipe the blade dry, periodically lubricate with a thin layer of oil. Use only diamond or ceramic devices for sharpening. Do not expose the handle to prolonged exposure to water, wipe with a soft cloth if necessary.
Who should choose this knife: it is ideal for hunters, collectors, connoisseurs of exclusivity, tourists and fishermen, for whom reliability, durability and luxurious appearance are essential. It is also a wonderful status gift.
Who is not suitable:It is not recommended for heavy construction, lever, power work and for those who prefer simple sharpening without specialized tools.
