Detailed analysis of the characteristics and features of the knife
    Blade steel: X12MF (forged)
The blade is made of forged tool steel X12MF, which has one of the best wear resistance among knife steels. The hardness of 61-62 HRC provides an outstanding ability to maintain the sharpness of the cutting edge for a long time, even when working regularly on hard materials such as wood, leather, food and dense fabrics. The X12MF is characterized by high strength and resistance to mechanical stress. Due to the forged processing, the steel structure is additionally compacted, which increases the strength of the blade and its chip resistance.

    Handle material: Wenge
The handle is made of natural African wenge wood, known for its high density, durability and resistance to moisture. The wenge is pleasant to the touch, holds well in the hand even in wet conditions, does not slip and perfectly balances the knife due to its weight. This handle guarantees comfort even during long-term operation.

    Construction and shape
The all-metal design (full tang) ensures maximum strength of the knife along its entire length — from the tip to the heel of the handle. The blade thickness of 3 mm provides the necessary margin of safety without excessive weight, and the blade length of 180 mm and width of 90 mm form a wide, shovel-shaped shape characteristic of the “Serbian knife” (more often called the Serbian chef). This geometry is ideal for universal use in the kitchen, processing large pieces of meat, slicing vegetables, butchering fish, as well as for heavy work in hiking and camping conditions. The wide blade provides convenient feeding of sliced products, and can also serve as a spatula.

Resistance to moisture, corrosion and wear resistance
H12MF has medium corrosion resistance: it is smaller than that of stainless steels, but significantly higher than that of carbon analogues. Regular maintenance is required to preserve the appearance and working properties: after use, it is recommended to thoroughly wipe the blade dry and, if stored for a long time, apply a thin layer of oil. The wear resistance of the X12MF is very high — the edge does not “shrink” even from intensive work, which makes it possible to sharpen the knife less often.

    Ease of maintenance
Despite its high hardness, X12MF lends itself well to sharpening when using high-quality abrasives (diamond, ceramic). Regular editing is recommended to maintain maximum sharpness. The wenge handle does not require complicated maintenance — it is enough to treat it from time to time with mineral or special oil for wood to maintain color saturation and prevent the appearance of cracks.

Applications, advantages and limitations
- Is optimal for: home and professional cuisine, outdoor activities, camping trips, processing meat, fish, vegetables. Thanks to its wide shovel-shaped shape, it cuts, chops and grinds food with maximum convenience.
- Grip convenience:The all-metal construction and ergonomic wenge handle ensure a secure, non-slip grip even in wet and cold conditions.
- Durability and maintenance: The knife is extremely resistant to wear, rarely needs to be sharpened and is excellent for active, regular work. Only minimal care is needed — wiping and periodic application of oil.
- Restrictions: It is not recommended for constant contact with acidic media and aggressive detergents — this can cause stains on the blade. It is not intended for fine filigree work, for example, for careful skinning, milling fish or performing very precise decorative cuts due to the width of the blade.
Unique features and historical context
The Serbian knife, with its recognizable shovel—shaped shape, originates in the Balkan cooking traditions - it is a real working tool of the butcher and cook, combining the functions of an axe and a chef's knife. The modern forged X12MF and wenge design takes this knife to a new level: it combines historical versatility with premium materials, hand-made finishes and reliability for modern conditions.
Brief advice and care recommendations
This knife is perfect for professional chefs, cooking enthusiasts, hunters and tourists who need a reliable universal for large and complex tasks — cutting meat, working with vegetables, slicing, chopping. It will also be an interesting specimen for collectors who appreciate tools with a historical character and handmade decoration.
It is not recommended for those who are looking for a compact tool for very fine work or prefer knives made of completely stainless steels.
Care: after each use, wipe the blade thoroughly; for long—term storage, apply a thin layer of oil. The wenge handle should be wiped with a dry cloth and periodically treated with wood oil. Do not wash in the dishwasher or leave it wet!
